Research Project:
The impact of CXCR4 inhibition on endogenous mouse models of lung cancer progression and metastasis
Summary:
Dr. Gandhi’s project is focused on understanding tumor growth and metastasis in both NSCLC and SCLC. Dr. Gandhi is testing an inhibitor of CXCR4, a protein that is thought to contribute to metastasis, using preclinical models to lay the groundwork for a future clinical trial.

Final Report
Dr. Gandhi has shown that CXCR4 is broadly expressed on NSCLC and SCLC lines. The CXCR4 inhibitor tested showed some promise. Another inhibitor tested may inhibit metastatic progression, but showed no effect on primary tumor growth or overall survival. Dr. Gandhi plans to continue to investigate this protein in terms of expression, tumor/stromal interactions, and using new inhibitors for potential clinical trials.
