Research Project:
Improving an Important Targeted Therapy
Summary:
Erlotinib (Tarceva®) is a targeted therapy that has given hope to many lung cancer patients whose tumors are described as “EGFR positive.” However, erlotinib eventually stops working for nearly all patients. This grant will help Dr. Blakely learn how certain gene mutations block erlotinib from working and drive tumor growth. He will also investigate combinations of drugs that could delay or prevent these mutations from blocking erlotinib’s effectiveness.
