Research Project:
Chk1 as a Novel Target in Small Cell Lung Cancer
Summary:
Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is a rapidly fatal disease with few treatment options beyond frontline therapy. In this proposal, Dr. Lauren Averett Byers is investigating the role of a DNA repair protein, Chk1, as a novel therapeutic target for SCLC. The goal of this study is to demonstrate the activity of drugs that block Chk1 in patient-derived cell lines and animal models as a first step towards the development of a clinical trial of Chk1 inhibitors for SCLC patients.
